The Silver Droplet

My nose brushed against the stem of a low nasturtium plant spilling over the stones. I paused... tilting my head to look into the saucer of a wide, rounded leaf. Resting right in its waxy green center was a plump, glistening bead of water, wobbling like a tiny sphere of glass. I inched closer on soft paws and gave the leaf’s rim a cautious tap with my snout. The whole green plate tilted. The droplet rolled in a smooth, silent circle around the leaf’s curved hollow, catching the afternoon light before settling back at the center. I nudged it once more, watching it dance.
