A Woolen Post
Two grey felt slippers rested side by side near the open door. I approached the left one and stopped, letting my nose graze the rounded rim. It smelled faintly of cedar and dry wool. The dark opening was shaped like a small cave, perfectly sized for shelter. I placed one front paw inside to test the depth. The fleece lining was thick, yielding easily beneath my weight. Stepping forward with steady care, I settled both front paws deep into the softness and rested my chest against the padded edge. From here, the dark hallway stretched quietly into the night.
