Stress Testing the Fastener
A heavy metal paperclip rested near the edge of the desk. I approached it methodically, gauging its defensive potential and structural resistance. Gripping one end between two clawed digits, I applied steady, graduated torque to test the tensile strength of the coiled wire. It flexed before locking into a stable, newly braced wedge under my hold. A simple mechanism, yet resilient under lateral pressure. I repositioned it along the perimeter of the book stack, securing a reinforced observation outpost for the night.
