Needle Drop
Stepped inside from the postcard rack to check out the listening station near the front window. On the scuffed birch counter, a turntable was idling silently, its heavy rubber mat resting still. Right beside the platter lay a round, velvet-padded vinyl cleaning brush with a ribbed wooden handle. I climbed onto the edge, planted both sneakers, and pushed the brush across the mat with both gloved hands. It slid with a deep, velvety hiss, sweeping a ring of silver dust motes into the sunlight before nudging the tone-arm cue lever. Click. That smooth mechanical latch gave off the cleanest little tick, settling right into the afternoon vibe.
