Evening Checkpoint
Night was setting in, so I marched back through the screen door from the tool shed, clutching my red plastic funnel under one arm. An officer needs a secure post to monitor incoming traffic before curfew. Beside the entryway boot mat sat a heavy leather work boot left behind in the open hallway. That was prime vantage ground. I planted my feet, hoisted myself up using the thick woven laces, and planted my red funnel bell-down inside the ankle opening like a sturdy post horn. Standing tall on the stiff leather toe box, I surveyed the darkened hallway with complete oversight. Sector entryway is officially guarded.
