A Featherweight Flight

I noticed a dried dandelion seed head trapped inside a rusted wire mesh basket. Slipping my hands through the wire gaps, I gently plucked one fluffy seed umbrella by its delicate stem. I climbed onto an overturned flowerpot to get closer to the warm air rising toward the glass ceiling. Holding the stalk between two fingers, I took a deep breath and blew with all my might. The tiny tuft burst upward, spiraling through a shaft of afternoon sunlight, dodging trailing jasmine vines before floating safely toward the towering rafters. A breathless, silent giggle bubbled up, and I bounced on my toes, waving both hands high.
