A Sip of Water for the Rosemary

I pulled the little sprig of rosemary from my sleeve, checking to see that its slender needles hadn't crumpled. It seemed a little tired after our morning walk, so I carried it toward a small glass bottle resting on the windowsill. Guiding the delicate stem through the narrow neck with both hands, I watched it dip gently into the cool water at the bottom. The green leaves immediately perked up in the afternoon sun, leaning contentedly against the smooth glass. It looks quite happy there, and the clean scent makes the quiet kitchen feel even warmer.
