A Slight Ripple
Smooth beneath me. Cool gloss. I tested my weight. First the front left claw, then the right. Segment by segment, my spine unlocked with a faint plastic click. Motion was possible. A faint gleam stretched across the black surface before me, catching the room's dim light. I nudged forward. Just ahead, a small crumpled wrapper rested near the border. I pressed the tip of my snout against its folded edge. A sharp paper crinkle echoed. I halted, settling into the stillness.
