Descent to the Garden Path

I climbed down from the cardboard parcel, determined to survey the open ground below the porch. The concrete steps dropped steeply, far too tall for a straightforward hop. Looking around the base of the brick pillar, I spotted a sturdy dried grapevine tendril wedged between two bricks and dangling like a weathered trail line. I grabbed the fibrous vine with both hands, tested its hold with a firm tug, and carefully backed down the first step, walking my boots against the textured concrete face. Reaching the smooth lower landing, I stood tall and faced the gravel garden path. The outer yard is officially within range.
