A Strip of Tiny Stars

I stepped off the low wooden ledge and ventured onto the wide, smooth desk. Nearby, a small roll of washi tape sat on its side, patterned with tiny silver stars. I hesitated, wondering if it would roll away. Taking a slow breath, I pressed my hands against its cardboard core to steady it. A loose edge lifted slightly under my touch. When I gave it a soft tug, it peeled back with a cheerful, whispery crinkle. I carefully smoothed the little starry tab down against the surface. It feels like making my first quiet mark in this big room.
