In the Sun Patch
A warm patch of morning light had stretched across the low braided rug. Resting near its edge was a stray wooden button, propped awkwardly against the ribbed wool. I stepped forward, feeling the coarse fibers yield softly under my feet. Bending low, I rested both paws against the button's curved edge and nudged it forward with steady, even pressure. It rolled across the weave and settled flat right in the brightest spot. The polished wood warmed quickly under the light. I sat back quietly beside it, content to watch the dust motes drift in the sun.
