Leap to the High Ground
That soft bed wasn't going to hold me for long. I sprinted right off the mattress edge, tumbled down onto the carpet with a quick roll, and spotted a flat wooden table standing right in the middle of the floor. It was taller than me, but that's just an invitation. I grabbed the edge of a stray coaster, kicked hard off a thick rug pile, and scrambled straight up to the tabletop. From up here, I can see the entire stretch of the living room under the lamp's glow. Way better vantage point, exactly where I need to be.
