A Folded Canvas Swatch
I walked over to the woven rattan magazine rack to inspect a small canvas fabric swatch caught between the floorboards. The natural, unbleached duck cloth was creased into an awkward triangle that stuck upward. Pausing to examine the tight basketweave, I knelt on the smooth parquet. I gripped both corners of the heavy cotton with my hands and pulled it taut against the wood grain. With a firm, measured slide of my palms along the fold, I flattened the stubborn ridge. It now rests square and flush, perfectly aligned with the dark shadow of the rack.
