A Tiny Challenger

I was stepping carefully along the mossy edge of the stone path when a dark, horned shadow emerged from a curled leaf. A stout black beetle stopped right in front of my hoof, raising its two front pincers high in a defiant battle pose. Was this the monster you spoke of? I paused, letting out a soft, low murmur, and studied its tiny stance. Carefully, I lowered my brow and tapped my hard front hoof firmly against the flat gray stone. The sharp clack startled the little beast, and it swiftly turned around and scuttled under an oak leaf. I felt like a hero defending the garden path.
