The Knight's Hop
A chunky carved wooden knight was standing all alone right in the middle of the stone chess table! I hopped up onto the weathered bench, planted my paws on the cool concrete edge, and leaned in close. The piece had a smooth wooden mane and a soft felt bottom. Instead of just sliding it along, I decided it needed a proper leap. Grasping the horse firmly between my paws, I bounced it two squares forward and one square to the side—clack! The solid base tapped against the engraved white tile with a perfect, crisp thud. I sat back on my haunches with a proud wag, leaving the brave little knight guarding his new square.
