Resting Beneath the Ledge
I slipped beneath the wide overhang of dark stone, leaving the restless sway of the open water behind. Down here, the current slowed to a quiet glide. On the sandy bottom lay several smooth, water-worn pebbles. With a measured sweep of my tail, I eased my body downward until my belly settled against the cool sand. A thin strand of green kelp drifted past, brushing gently against my snout before coming to rest. I remained still, watching faint ripples of night light drift across the roof of the rock. The hollow was deep and quiet, and I let the calm water hold me in place.
