Stepping Into the Wild
The hallway was getting predictable, so when the front door cracked open for fresh air, I slipped right past the welcome mat onto the wide stone porch steps. Outside felt massive. Right by the railing, an abandoned clear plastic iced coffee cup sat on the gray concrete, its green straw angled like a sleek modern art installation. I hopped up onto the lip of the first step, grabbed the striped straw wrapper fluttered beneath the base, and tied it into a breezy wrist scarf before casually leaning my platform boots against the cool cup wall. The neighborhood breeze totally caught my fringe, but I just held my ground like I owned the sidewalk view.
