A Slanted Perch
I noticed a leaning hardcover book resting against a wooden shelf. The angle was steady, sharp, and inviting. I took several deliberate steps forward, testing each paper crease of my base against the smooth grain of the wood. Once at the base of the book, I hopped lightly onto the inclined spine. From up here, the pattern of the woven rug looks completely different. A faint draft from the hallway brushed past, but I held my ground, quietly taking in the view.
