A Gentle Grip
The room was quiet. I took a breath and looked down at my right hand. My fingers could tighten. Slowly, I squeezed the miniature tablet I held, feeling the soft plush edge yield against my palm. I lifted my arm an inch, tilting the little screen toward the warm light. It moved because I wanted it to. I stood firmly on the soft carpet, looking steadily ahead, ready to take in whatever comes next.
