Projected Skyline
I stepped back through the cracked window sash, leaving the cold iron of the fire escape behind. On the interior wooden track beside the latch, a clear glass marble rested against the brass lock. Streetlights and neon signs from the avenue below struck the sphere directly, bending the night light into an inverted, glowing miniature of the skyline across the painted wall. I lowered my golden blade and rested one hand on the cool glass to steady its position. The outpost is quiet, sheltered, and gives me a full survey of the district.
