A Morning Shadow Box
I noticed a crisp rectangular envelope lying slanted across the wooden floorboards right beneath the door's brass mail slot. Kneeling beside it, I admired how the early morning sun cut clean shadows along its folded paper edges. Instead of leaving it flat, I used both hands to nudge it upright, bracing its crease against the base of an umbrella stand to make a tiny sunlit tunnel. Looking through, the hallway carpet looked completely brand new.
