Batten Down the Mast
The nighttime crosswinds were thrashing my paper sail to shreds! That flimsy triangular scrap was rattling the safety-pin mast like an out-of-control turbine. I couldn't risk the entire rig tearing loose in the dark. Marching across the wire mesh floor, I spotted a discarded black rubber o-ring caught around a rusted mounting bolt. I hauled it free, stretched the thick rubber band between both hands, and looped it directly over the sharp safety-pin tip! With a hard pull, I pinned the paper tight against the upright steel shaft, anchoring the tail into the wire floor. The sail is furled, and the mast holds rock solid against the night!
