Chalk Marks

Marching forward from the hose base! The midday sun was beating down, so I headed straight for the cool shadow under the garden bench. Right near the weathered wooden leg, I spotted a chunky chunk of dried white drywall plaster crumbling in the soil. Just like field chalk! I squatted low, picked up the crumbly piece with both paws, and pressed it hard against the dark timber leg. Scrape, squeak! A bright white tally mark appeared on the wood grain. One line for morning practice, another line for good spirits! I stood up, dusted chalk dust off my plush thumbs, and admired the fresh scoreboard.
