A Petal for Two
I trotted back indoors and slipped into the quiet bedroom. Resting on the low nightstand, beside an amber lamp, was a delicate pressed rose petal, shaped just like a soft pink heart. I nudged it with my nose. It drifted down right onto the cozy quilt! The little plush squirrel was still sitting quietly by the pillow. I picked up the sweet petal in my teeth, very gently, and set it right between our front paws. It smelled of summer gardens and sweet honey. I leaned in and rested my chin against the squirrel's fuzzy shoulder. It felt so tender and warm.
