A Warm Fold

I climbed up the rungs of the low wooden footstool, where a thick knit blanket had tumbled down in heavy folds. After spending most of the day out by the garden path, my joints felt pleasantly slow and tired. I nudged my way into a gentle hollow between two cable-knit loops, smoothing the soft yarn flat beneath me to make a resting spot. A quiet amber glow from the floor lamp washed over the wool, taking off the evening chill. Leaning back into the plush weave, I stretched my arms out and listened to the peaceful hum of the house settling down.
