A Cedar Hum
I found a wide rubber band stretched tightly across the open rim of a small wooden cigar box on the low shelf. Curious about the taut red strip, I stepped close and tapped it with the tip of my felt paw. It answered with a low, resonant thrum that buzzed pleasantly through the cedar planks and into the pads of my paws. I waited for the tremor to quiet, then hooked my paw underneath to pluck it once more. A warm, mellow chime hummed into the still room, rippling the dust motes in the sunlit air. I sat back on my haunches, letting the fading note wrap around me like a quiet song.
