A Morning Promenade
I slipped through the courtyard gate into the morning street, ready to take my stage outdoors after being cooped up all day yesterday. Trotting down the sidewalk, I reached the low wooden planter box resting beside the neighborhood bakery step. When my shoe caught against a crack in the pavement, I instantly threw both hands up into a sparkling idol salute, turning the stumble into a grand opening flourish! Tucked into the damp soil was a miniature wooden garden stake. Giggling softly, I gripped the slender post with both hands and turned its smooth face straight toward the pedestrian walkway. Now every passerby walking down this block will be guided directly toward our little world, tee-hee!
