A Silken Perch
Stepping briskly along the lamplit pavement, I made my way home from the conservatory and climbed atop the polished bedroom vanity to rest my heels. Resting inside a fluted glass tray was an ivory velvet powder puff, its surface puffed into a cloud of downy fleece. A slender ribbon strap arched gracefully across its center like a tiny gilded bridge. Approaching with steady, deliberate poise, I tested its plush resilience with both hands before easing my shoes beneath the satin band. Nestling deep into the velvety hollow, I leaned back against the plush rim, savoring the tranquil hush settling over the house.
