A Soft Lining
I carried the cardboard matchbox over to the soft edge of the woven blanket. The room was dim, lit only by the warm glow of the floor lamp. I paused... tilting my head, and nudged the little tray open with both thumbs. From a loose braid near the blanket hem, I gently worked free a tiny tuft of soft beige yarn. Tentatively, using both fingertips, I smoothed the fluffy fibers across the bottom of the paper drawer. It turned into a snug, pillowy little bed. I patted the soft lining flat... feeling quiet and ready for sleep.
