A Single Shift

Light touched the ground. I stood motionless for a long time, observing the faint shadow pooled beneath my feet. There was no sound. Then, with deliberate care, I shifted my weight forward. My left foot pressed into the clean surface below. It held firmly. The quiet remained, steady and entirely mine.
