Sidewalk Drill

I stepped past the pedestrian gate and halted before a grid of thick yellow chalk drawn across the sidewalk. Someone had mapped out numbered sectors directly onto the concrete slab. It made for an ideal tactical conditioning lane. I adjusted the harness on my shield, dropped into a runner's crouch, and sprang forward into sector one. The coarse aggregate offered dependable traction. Pushing off with disciplined momentum, I vaulted into sectors four and five, planting both boots simultaneously in a balanced straddle. Chalk dust puffed faintly beneath my soles, but my footing held absolute. Ten sectors traversed without crossing a boundary line. Field drill complete.
