A Bed in the Corner
The sidewalk grew dark, and my brick paws felt cold against the pavement. Time to go back. I trotted along the wall, pushing through the flexible rubber sweep under the lobby door. Click, tap. Safe inside. Beside the glass frame sat a large, woven umbrella basket made of split cane. Behind it, nestled in the corner, was a soft grey knit glove left behind on a clean ceramic tile. I paused, tilting my head. Gently, I pushed the glove flat against the baseboard with both front paws, creating a neat, cushioned square. Then I folded my legs and tucked right into the wool. Steady walls, warm quiet.
