Crimson Sling
Sprawling out on cold zinc buckets was never going to make the cut tonight. Mounted against the cart’s slatted wooden frame, a spool of wide crimson satin ribbon sat pinned by a brass cotter pin. I hauled the glossy band loose, unrolling a clean strip straight across the gap between two bracket pegs. Two tight loops around the dowel and a sharp downward yank locked the tension solid. I vaulted onto the curve, letting the silky sling cradle my weight an inch above the deck. Suspended between fragrant eucalyptus branches with my boots propped up, this custom hammock beats any standard bunk.
