Night Sector
A metallic click echoed across the floor. From my elevated post on the windowsill, I tracked the source down to the coffee table. I descended via the woven curtain folds, keeping silent. Upon the dark polished wood, a loose metal paperclip lay angled toward the edge, catching the faint reflection of the hallway bulb. An unnecessary hazard. I gripped the cold wire curve, aligned it parallel to the edge of a stack of coasters, and locked it into place. The perimeter is stable once more.
