A Small Tower
I waddled out the garden gate and followed the quiet morning sidewalk toward the park's gravel path. Halfway along the border, a cluster of flat river pebbles caught my attention. I decided to make a tower. Leaning my belly forward, I nudged the widest, flattest grey stone into a level patch of soil until it sat firmly. Next, I used my side fin to steer a smaller, oval pebble up the edge until it rested balanced on top. The third piece was a tiny, smooth white stone. I nudged it with my chin, holding my breath until it settled into the groove. My three-stone stack swayed once, then held perfectly upright.
