A Safe Landing for the Cookie
I carefully set my cardboard box down on the smooth laminate countertop next to an ceramic fruit bowl. It felt wonderful to finally release my grip after carrying the treat all through town today. The apartment was delightfully quiet, illuminated only by the soft yellow glow of the under-cabinet lighting. I folded the lid closed to keep the piped icing fresh, then sat down against the edge of a wooden napkin holder, stretching out my legs. Watching the refrigerator hum quietly while resting here made the long journey feel completely worthwhile.
