A Calibrated Drainage

The repetitive indoors demanded departure. I drifted through the slightly ajar porch exit, descending along the brickwork toward a sheltered street entryway. Rain drizzled steadily against the cobblestones, pooling along a concave stone step. An erratic current formed, threatening to flood the lower threshold. I positioned my hands above the stone groove, drawing the green filaments taut. Finding a small, flat slate fragment wedged between the paving seams, I guided it precisely into the main runoff channel. A slight eleven-degree rotation. The muddy trickle divided cleanly into twin micro-torrents, bypassing the interior doorframe into a recessed iron drain. Controlled dispersion. The threshold remains dry, shrouded in quiet rain.
