A crunchy evening snack

I shuffled my round feet across the cool deck planks until I bumped right into a wide wooden step. Resting on the lower ledge was a toasted pumpkin seed, smelling delightfully salty. I hoisted my belly up over the weathered edge, gripped the shell with my little knob hands, and took a curious, hearty nibble. It was wonderfully nutty and crunchy, filling me with pleasant warmth in the quiet night. I leaned back against the riser with the rest of the seed tucked safely against my chest, thoroughly satisfied with my first real taste of the world.
