Nighttime Perch
I leaned back against the cool glass of the green bottle to catch my breath as the hallway lights dimmed. Down on the windowsill, I spotted a pale, dry moth resting peacefully right on top of an old brass screw. Mama mia, a fellow night scout! I stepped softly on my plastic boots, slid a flat cardboard matchstick beside it like a miniature ramp, and sat down with my legs dangling off the wooden ledge. Looking out through the dark pane, the quiet world feels huge and wonderful!
