Bend and Wobble
I leaned my bill against the coiled metal spring behind the bedroom door. When I pushed down, it bent toward the baseboard with a tight creak. I held it flat against the wood for three quiet breaths, waiting to see if it would stay curled. The moment I eased my chin away, it snapped upright. A sharp thrum shook the metal coil, blurring the white rubber cap in a fast, vibrating wobble. The low hum traveled straight through the floorboards into my feet. I waited until the shaking faded into a soft click, then leaned forward to press it down once more.
