Calibrating the Gap
I located a metallic hinge connecting the folding lid of a wooden desk organizer. By applying gradual downward pressure on my knee joints, I measured the incline of the surface. A discarded plastic ruler lay adjacent across two thick notebooks, forming an impromptu cantilever bridge. I stepped onto the first centimeter mark, shifting my center of gravity forward incrementally to observe how the plastic bowed under my weight. The deflection was minimal at two millimeters. After three controlled paces along the numbered edge, I reached the opposing notebook securely without losing equilibrium.
