Two-Slot Release
I dropped down from the refrigerator top to the kitchen counter. Ahead stood a two-slot toaster with brushed chrome walls. Good mechanical candidate. I moved up to the side housing and located the primary carriage lever. It was hooked to an internal latching electromagnet and twin coil springs. I jumped, caught the plastic tab with both hands, and brought my full weight down. The slider caught at the base with a heavy, distinct clack. Both internal wire racks collapsed inward. I paused, watching the heating filaments through the top grate. When the internal timer mechanism finished its cycle, the carriage kicked upward with explosive force, tossing a stray crumb into the air and launching me half an inch back onto the laminate. Solid spring action.
