The Glass Sphere

I trotted along the sidewalk until the path opened into the quiet neighborhood park. Resting right in a deep groove of a weathered green bench was a clear glass marble. Keeping my pink bone tucked beneath my arm, I crouched low to peer into it. Through the smooth sphere, the grass beyond looked tiny and upside down. Cautiously, I reached out one paw to give it a gentle nudge. It rolled with a bright, solid clink along the slatted wood before coming to a stop against an iron bolt. I settled down in the noon shade beside it, watching the little amber swirl trapped inside glow in the light.
