Claiming the Summit
The floor was too crowded, so I aimed higher. A stack of thick hardcover books formed a steep ridge leading toward the top shelf. I dug my claws into the textured leather spine of the bottom volume, hauled my weight up, and pushed straight through to the highest tier. There was a metal desk lamp blocking the final ledge. I didn't hesitate; one solid shove cleared just enough space for my footing. From up here, every corner of the room is in full view. Nothing moves down there without me spotting it.
