Nighttime Perimeter Check

The park went completely quiet after sunset, but that long metal chain-link perimeter caught my eye. I trotted across the soft mulch, grabbed the lower galvanized wire diamond with both hands, and hauled myself up onto the bottom tension rod. It was chilly, narrow, and vibrated faintly with the distant street traffic. I balanced carefully on one boot, testing the flex of the woven steel, then scurried hand-over-hand along three full sections, feeling the cold diamond mesh click beneath my soles. Standing perched on that thin pipe while looking out at the glowing empty path felt like scoping out a brand new raceway.
