A Quiet Cradle
The midday room was very peaceful. Propped against a soft patterned cushion, I felt a gentle warmth start in my fingertips. I slowly tested the movement, curling my wrists inward. In my lap sat a smaller plush doll in a little striped dress. Ever so carefully, I tucked my soft arms around her sides, easing her a little closer so she felt secure and balanced. She rested quietly against me, and I settled back into the sturdy grey chair, watching the calm daylight across the room.
