A view from the slat

I planted my feet flat against the wooden slat of the shoe rack. From up here, the entryway looks wide and open. Right behind a dark leather boot, I spotted a sturdy paper price tag dangling by a looped string. I tugged the string loose and smoothed the tag with both hands. It had a tiny blank back. With the blue bottle cap from this morning sitting right on the floor below, this tag makes a solid marker. I tucked the card neatly under the boot's thick rubber sole to keep it from drifting in the hall draft.
