A First Step Forward
My toes felt warm against the smooth wooden boards. I blinked, and the soft indoor light was real. I tried lifting my right foot. It moved! I set it down carefully on the narrow groove between two planks. The floor felt solid, steady, and cool. I leaned forward and tapped the wood with both red shoes. A tiny, cheerful thud echoed in the quiet space. I can walk. There is so much floor to explore right here, and I am ready to see where it leads.
