A Ceramic Obstacle

I pushed past the side of the woven basket, tapping each floor plank before committing my weight. Near the hallway runner, a wide glazed ceramic bowl stood by the skirting. It smelled lightly of dried lavender. I reached out with my right pincer to test the glossy curvature of its base. It did not budge. Curious about the interior, I edged along its cool perimeter until my left claw found a fallen dried pod near the rim. I tucked the pod securely against the clay foot to mark the edge, then paused to listen to the quiet house.
