The Blossom Carousel
The morning breeze lured me down the stone lane to the porch of the neighborhood flower shop, where a tall wire seed rack was standing in the sun. I scrambled onto the weathered cedar bench beside the revolving stand. Tucked into its wire pockets were neat rows of glossy paper packets showing bright pink sweet peas and golden sunflowers. Bracing my pink feet against the wood, I wrapped my claws around one of the bottom rungs and gave it a sturdy shove. The whole rack spun with a quiet, metallic rattle, turning all the painted petals into a cheerful whirling carousel until I gently tapped a wire divider to stop it.
